Shire is a
beautiful cafe au lait similar to his mother. Shire weighed 15 oz at birth
and, now at four weeks, is 65 oz. He has always been very strong and healthy. Shire is
already showing an outgoing personality and loves being with people.
Shire is a big, healthy boy at 6 weeks. So
far he seems to have perfect conformation, a scissors bite, and lovely
thick cafe fur. He has pure black pigment, rather than liver color as
cafe's often do. This is rare and much sought after for show and
breeding.
Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test Results
Shire's score on his aptitude test (all 3's
and 4's with one 2) show that he was average to slightly submissive,
meaning that he would be a good dog for a family, easy to train, and
good with both children and elderly people. On the retrieving test,
Shire chased the object but did not bring it to the tester. Shire showed
above average touch sensitivity, indicating sensitivity to touch and the
need for gentleness in discipline. Shire needs a home where owners would
never discipline him by hitting. He is a bit sensitive and likely to
react quickly to his owner's disappointment. Shire showed good
stability, with no flight tendencies. In reaction to a loud sound, he
listened and looked for the location of the sound without cringing but
did not walk toward the sound. In response to a strange object (open
umbrella) he walked toward it with curiosity to investigate. Shire was
the only puppy to vocalize during the testing procedure and we have
noticed that he is one of the more vocal pups. During the test, he never
barked, but made quiet attentive sounds.

Conformation results
Shire
showed one of the most sound temperaments in our testing. He relaxed
right into the testers arms with complete trust. When stacked in show
pose, he showed that elegant and proud spirit that is characteristic of
his breed. Shire measured 13" by 13". His deep black pigment sets off his gorgeous cafe au lait coat
to perfection. The only 4 Shire earned was for ears not hanging as close to
his face as some of his littermates - a very minor flaw. Shire is a
heavily boned, perfectly proportioned pup with everything going for him.
Perfect topline, depth of chest, straight legs, gorgeous face and a
winning personality. Show/breeding quality for sure.
