Many people have admired Rocky and commented that he seems to have the makings of a great show dog. He reminds us of the black Standard Poodle Mel, who was featured on the TV show Dogs with Jobs. Mel is a Canadian champion many times over. He gets so excited when he wins that he jumps up and down and hugs and kisses his handler.

Rocky surprised us. We thought Grace was all done with puppies as 3 hours had passed since Brumby's birth. We took a nap and woke up to find Rocky, who Grace took beautiful care of on her own. Rocky was only 13.5 oz at birth but true to his name has powered up to 72 oz. and is now the second biggest pup in the litter at four weeks. Pure black, sturdy, and healthy as a horse with solid black pigment, Rocky is going to be a big guy.

Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test Results

Rocky's results (eight 3's, two 2's, one 4) indicate a very stable puppy. He came readily to the strange tester, licking her immediately showing his outgoing personality. He struggled just slightly when held down or up in the air, showing a little frustration but tolerating human dominance without complaint. He showed a fairly low sensitivity to touch, also indicating a great deal of tolerance and perhaps a more stoic personality. He showed a calm demeanor when exposed to strange sights and sounds and held his ground and investigated cautiously. On retrieving, Rocky chased the object and returned it to the tester, indicating high retrieving potential. Rocky's results indicate that he would be a good candidate for an active family. He is one of our more outgoing puppies who likes lots of attention. He might become bored in a home that is too quiet, and would probably prefer an active lifestyle. He would likely enjoy the show ring, hunting, or agility competition as he is an energetic and alert puppy.

Puppy Puzzle Conformation results

Rocky has personality plus. His temperament testing was one of the best in the litter. He measured a big 13 1/2 inches at the shoulder by 13 1/2 inches long. "The Rock" as we like to call him, loves to come running at you full speed ahead. He reminds us of a famous Canadian black Standard champion named Mel who was featured on a TV show. His conformation was A+, we just can't find a flaw anywhere. Rocky has that "look at me" attitude like he is fully aware of just how gorgeous he is. He would be an outstanding candidate for show or breeding.
