We got our first Cairn Terrier Caeley 7 years
ago. We kept her daughter Jessa from one of her litters. Jessa has had one
litter and we plan to breed her again later this year and keep one of her
daughters to keep our line going. Jessa looks almost exactly like Toto from
the Wizard of Oz, who was a Cairn. Before we bought Caeley, we had a Kuvasz,
who we loved, but the white hair shedding all over the house was not
conducive to a family of children. We decided she would be our last shedding
dog and explored non-shedding breeds. We kept our Kuvasz until her death
from cancer a couple of years ago. Since Julie is Scottish, she liked the
idea of a Scottish dog. We fell in love with the hardy scruffiness of our
Cairn Terrier and decided to breed her as a family project. We were not
actually planning to keep a puppy at the time, but Jessa "chose" us and we
could not bring ourselves to sell her. She sleeps on our bed, along with
Grace. Caeley sleeps with our 14-year-old son. Although we don't have any
